Schaumburg Township property tax appeal 2026
Schaumburg Township notices went out on 6 October, and the free appeal to the Cook County Assessor is open until Thursday 19 November 2026. The north suburbs weren't reassessed this year, so this is about whether your home's value is right after last year's reassessment.

Check if my home is over-assessedWho this covers
Schaumburg Township covers Schaumburg and parts of Hoffman Estates and Roselle. Your notice or tax bill names your township; if it says Schaumburg, this deadline is yours.
Why look again this year
Schaumburg was reassessed in 2025 along with the rest of the north suburbs, the first time since 2022. That value carries over in 2026 unless something about your home changed. If you didn't appeal last year, or appealed without good comparables, this is the next chance.
Is it worth appealing?
- Your home's details are wrong: square footage, bedrooms, bathrooms, a finished basement or garage you don't have. These are the easiest wins.
- Similar homes sold for less than your estimated market value (your assessed value times 10). How to pick comparables.
- You bought recently for less than the Assessor's value, in an ordinary sale between unrelated people.
- Your home needs major repairs or was damaged or vacant for part of the year.
The Assessor's rule of thumb: if its estimate is within about 10% of what you think the home would sell for, an appeal is unlikely to change your bill much.
Free local help
The Schaumburg Township Assessor's office has helped residents file Cook County appeals in past years, in person and by email. Check schaumburgtownship.org for this year's hours and any Assessor seminars. Condo owners should also ask their association whether it's filing a building appeal.
How to file by 19 November
- Go to the Assessor's appeals page and start a residential appeal with your 14-digit PIN.
- Choose your reason (overvaluation, lack of uniformity, or incorrect description) and upload your evidence.
- Submit by Thursday 19 November. There's no fee and you don't need a lawyer.
- Missed it, or the result isn't enough? You can still appeal to the Board of Review when it opens Schaumburg Township.
Check your exemptions too
If you live in the home, make sure the homeowner exemption is on your bill, and the senior and senior freeze exemptions if you're 65 or older. Missed years can be claimed back. Exemptions checklist. Missed the 1 October payment? What late payment costs.
